Why You Should Have your Ductwork Inspected

Part of your maintenance routine for your HVAC system in your Cypress home should include having your ductwork inspected. When you schedule your annual furnace check-up, ask to have a technician look at your ducts as well. The air ducts are a very important part of your system, since they are the route by which the heated or cooled air reaches your rooms (depending on the time of year). They also look after returning stale air to the central unit to be either heated or cooled.

Why Have Your Duct Work Inspected

A professional inspection will reveal the following important information:

To see if your system may be leaking conditioned air. This will have an impact on your home’s energy efficiency and end up costing you more on your energy bill.
If your system has a buildup of dirt or dust that needs to be removed with a professional cleaning
Whether the duct work has significant structural or other issues and must be replaced

If the debris in the air ducts is allowed to collect for an extended time, one or more segments may need to be replaced.

Determining Whether to Clean or Replace Duct Work

A significant factor in deciding whether to clean or replace duct work is the type of air ducts that are installed in your home. If you happen to have metal air ducts without an interior lining, they can usually be cleaned relatively easily.

Homes that have flexible air ducts, which are made with a plastic material, can be susceptible to mold growth. Depending on the extent of the contamination, the safer choice is to simply replace them rather than attempting to clean up the mold.

An experienced HVAC contractor will be able to give you the best advice about whether your ducts can be cleaned or you should have one or more sections replaced. Have this inspection done annually as part of your regular home maintenance. If you ignore your ducts you are leaving them open to a buildup of contaminants that can pose a threat to your family’s health, such as dust, molds, and more. They can potentially trigger or exacerbate allergy and asthma problems for you or a family member.

Now is the perfect time to schedule your inspection. Air Depot has been serving the Cypress area since 1977, and we provide cleaning and replacement services, as required.
